AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 24:3 ¶ While Jesus was seated on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, and said, "Tell us, when will this [destruction of the temple] take place, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end (completion, consummation) of the age?" |
Subject: Still studying Mattew 24 |
Bible Note: Joe, you wrote, “Not to mention that it solves the "this generation will not pass away until these things happen" problem” I always thought that too, UNTIL I discovered what He meant by "generation" rather than what some began to teach in the last 100 years say He meant by it. Then I "discovered" Matthew 16:28, which cancelled the whole error of that argument. I could never answer any of the questions that arose from reading it. "THERE BE SOME STANDING HERE WHICH SHOULD NOT TASTE DEATH UNTIL THEY SAW HIM COMING IN HIS KINGDOM." Are any of those who were standing there still alive? Did they all die? Did Jesus lie? Or, DID THEY “SEE” HIM COMING ... AS HE PROMISED? Which one do you believe? Trusting in the truth of His Word, I can only believe that HE MEANT WHAT HE SAID HE MEANT. One phase at a time -- famines, numerous false Christs, “He’s in the desert", etc. etc. all ARE written by the eyewitness as having happened, AS He said it would. I guess I can top this off with a “quote” from Josephus (a book every pastor needs to dust off). In reference to the utter destruction and the end of the Jewish World: “Accordingly it appears to me, that the misfortunes of all men, FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE WORLD (my emphasis), if they be compared to THESE Jews, are not so considerable as they were …” This was written by a non-Christian, eye witness. The historian who “took us back to the beginning”. It reminded me of what Jesus said in Matt 21:24, in reference to “the great tribulation non such since the beginning to the world …”. Oh, but “coincidences” do happen. Reading what DID happen during that time period of destruction, AND reading what has transpired in the world since, I honestly doubt if Josephus would change his “viewpoint”. It still REMAINS the worst since the world began. Respectfully Taleb |
