AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 23:23 ¶ "Woe to you, [self-righteous] scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you give a tenth (tithe) of your mint and dill and cumin [focusing on minor matters], and have neglected the weightier [more important moral and spiritual] provisions of the Law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the [primary] things you ought to have done without neglecting the others. |
Bible Question: Is tithe just an O.T. responsibility or is it N.T. as well. Please elaborate. |
Bible Answer: Yes! It was under the law of moses. Tithe is a very important in the jewish religion. But there is no single teaching of Christ that will require us to give ten percent of our income. Also no one of the disciples require anyone to give tithes to them. Ac 13:39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. In the verse that I quoted above, it says that law of moses cannot justify us. Including in that law is tithe. It is also very hard to believe that we are Christian are ready to accpted that we cannot justify by but we still required to do things including iin the law. We are now ready to accept that we can eat pork and other food that the law cannot alow us to eat but then we still required to give tithes. We have to be consistent as Christ said to the scribes they are hypocrite: Mt 23:23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. If we observe the the tithe, we must observe other part of the law such us not eating pork the law of circumsation, killing our brother or sisters if we saw them gathering stick in the day of sabbath. We do not observe this because it is part of the law, but tithe is also part of the law. Are they excluded it when the stated that law cannot justify us? the answer is no! The teaching about love offering in the new testament goes: 2Co 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. No required amount, what is purposes of the heart. God bless, Johnny |
