AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 23:23 ¶ "Woe to you, [self-righteous] scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you give a tenth (tithe) of your mint and dill and cumin [focusing on minor matters], and have neglected the weightier [more important moral and spiritual] provisions of the Law: justice and mercy and faithfulness; but these are the [primary] things you ought to have done without neglecting the others. |
Subject: What makes a tithe a tithe? |
Bible Note: Interestingly Jews today do not pay a tithe. The thinking is there isn't a temple or priestly order so there is no one to pay a tithe to. They do pay for their seats in the synagogue. Each year the family is asked to pay an amount for their seats in the synagogue. I don't know how these prices are figured but I would guess the if the are like Protestants the seat in the back are the most prized. :-) |
