Bible Question: God gave Moses the Decalogue, or Ten Commandments. By Jesus' time on earth the Jews had expanded these to a total of 613 laws. Jesus reduced the number to two. What are they, and is keeping them easy -- a piece of cake, to use a modern faddish term? |
Bible Answer: Where in the world did man get the idea that Jesus "reduced" the laws to 2 ??? Here is what was said: Matthew 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? 37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. 40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. This does NOT say... I give you only 2 commandments. It says that all the others fall under these catagories. See: http://www.biblelight.org/cmd/cmdchrist01.htm for a *partial* list of Jesus' commands. We are instructed to obey not just Jesus' commands, but also His apostles *and* not to forget the words of the prophets ! 2 Peter 3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour: Jude 1:17 But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; Acts 16:4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem. |
