Bible Question: We have been having a small discussion about Matthew 22:14. It states "Many are called but few are chosen" - Our discussion is around the "many" - Does God only call Many? Who does He leave out? Why is it not "All are called and few chosen? Does anyone have the original text on this and can shed some enlightenment? |
Bible Answer: Dear Ainamoja, The word "many" is translated from the Greek "eklektos", meaning "chosen" or "selected". God leaves out those who He has not chosen. If the Holy Spirit intended to say "all", the verse would Say "all". But God chooses according to His good pleasure those who will recieve His mercy. Rom 9:13 Just as it is written, "JACOB I LOVED, BUT ESAU I HATED." 14 What shall we say then? There is no injustice with God, is there? May it never be! 15 For He says to Moses, "I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I HAVE COMPASSION." 16 So then it does not depend on the man who wills or the man who runs, but on God who has mercy. Hope this helps. John Reformed |
