Bible Question: We have been having a small discussion about Matthew 22:14. It states "Many are called but few are chosen" - Our discussion is around the "many" - Does God only call Many? Who does He leave out? Why is it not "All are called and few chosen? Does anyone have the original text on this and can shed some enlightenment? |
Bible Answer: Ainimoja, The translation of the original text as given in the KJV is fairly accurate; there is not much lateral movement for the key word "many" of your question. However, I have previously meditated on this verse and have been given an understanding which may help you. Read the whole book of Isaiah because it is a blueprint of the way God wills to do in giving us salvation; it also gives much insight into the teachings of the Gospels. As you read, notice in Isaiah 6:10 all eyes are blinded and all ears are closed. In Isaiah 35:1-6 the ears and eyes are opened of those who trusted in the Lord; the lame walk, and the dumb speak. After reading Isaiah, look at Jeremiah 31:33; here God has placed His word in our hearts. Now go to Romans 10:17. We see here that the faith we need in Isaiah 35 comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (which was placed in our heart). Therefore, only many are called because not ALL have the faith that is necessary. |
