Bible Note: I will try to answer the following questions you raised by listing your question then my answer follows. Are there other elements one would use in place of some of these three in another type of passage, and would there be more than three? There are other elements, yes. Are whole passages always broken down into parts like you have outlined as part of an inductive Bible study? Yes Can inductive Bible study be applied to the broader passage that are made of the parts? Yes The first application; does Jesus heal all Christians when they come to him? This is my personal application. The Life Lesson is something you apply personally from what you observe in the text. For me any healing that I need He is the first one I will turn to for help. The sixth application; is this talking about the Holy Spirit drawing men to God? The message is Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. A word study of the words "Holy Spirit" will show you what the work of the Holy Spirit is. The Lesson for Life is my personal application from what I observed in the text. I know that the Holy Spirit always points to Jesus. I know that it is the work of the Holy Spirit to convict people of sin and to testify to the finished work of Jesus on the Cross. Cross References is another element of inductive study. And could people who first resist His drawing be forgiven of that if they repent, haven't plenty of people done that? Yes, the point in this passage and the conclusion of Jesus message to them shows that they do not seek repentance and restoration therefore they are blaspheming against the Holy Spirit's work in their lives. We do not know if they have another opportunity to repent. We can't say because the passage does not say. For today if a person repents in response to the drawing of the Holy Spirit yes they can be forgiven. We know that from cross references. Inductive Study is a slow, truth upon truth process. As the Holy Spirit teaches you you add one truth upon another. I speak in the Lessons for Life what I have learned precept upon precept. In studying this way you let the passage speak for itsself. You do not have to come up with an interpretation. The interpretation comes out of the passage itself. A lot of questions are about application. I believe God will show each individual an application for their lives. I can't tell you what your application would be. I am only telling you what my application would be. Isn't blasepheming against the Holy Spirit saying Jesus did His works by the power of Satan according to verse 24? Blasepheming against the Holy Spirit is unbelief in Jesus, who He is, what He did on the cross. The argument of this particular group of Pharisees is a rebellion against Jesus. Christ knew their hearts, something you and I cannot know. I don't know why they opposed and argued with Him. I only know what the text says. Again you could do a word study on "blasphemy against the Holy Spirit". Whatever you do not understand about a passage you do word studies on the words in the topic you do not understand. Rather than me giving you all the answers you would do the long, drawn out process of searching it out for yourself. Not that you are not willing to do that but most people want someone else to answer all their questions when they will not be convinced or really remember it unless they dig it out for themselves. Already look at how many things you do not understand about what I have listed. Only an in-depth bible study for yourself will satisfy. I commend you that you are seeking to know God and His word better. Continued in next post |
