Bible Question:
I myself have used this verse very often to mean that the "actions" of others constitute the "good tree and good fruit" and the "bad tree and bad fruit". After reading further down the passage, I am wondering if I am getting it all wrong! Jesus speaks of the words that come out of people's mouths as being this bad or good fruit rather than anctions. So, my question is are we taking the verse out of context by applying it to action as well, since Jesus does not say works, or actions? Just a worthless son. blessings abound, bowler |
Bible Answer: I will be using Segment Divisions, Main Characters, Events and Lessons for Life Segment Division - Matt 12:22 - Main Characters: A Demon-possessed man who was blind and mute, Jesus. Event - The Lord healed a demon-possessed, blind, and mute man who was brought to him. The healed man spoke and saw. Lesson for Life: Jesus heals me when I come to Him Segment Division - Matt 12:23-24 - Main Characters: Crowds, Pharisees, Jesus. Event - Reaction to Jesus healing of the demon-possessed, blind and mute man by the crowds and by the Pharisees. The crowds were in amazement. They are contrasted (but is a word of contrast) to the reaction of the Pharisees. The Pharisees attributed the power of Satan to healing the man. Lesson for Life: I believe that Jesus has power over sickness and demons. Segment Division - Matt 12:25-27 - Main Characters: Jesus, Pharisees. Event - Jesus points out how illogical their statement is; that would be a kingdom divided against itself. It would be Satan casting out Satan. Lesson for Life: People who oppose Jesus are illogical. Segment Division - Matt 12:28-29 - Main Characters: Jesus, Pharisees. Event - Jesus message to the Pharisees; Jesus casts out demons by the Spirit of God, the Kingdom of God has come upon you. Lesson for Life: I believe Jesus is from God and His kingdom is from God. Segment Division: Matt 12:30-31 - Main Characters: Jesus, Pharisees. Event - Jesus message to the Pharisees; You are either for Me or against Me. Rejection of Jesus is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. Lesson for Life: I am for Jesus. I believe He is God the Son. He is my Lord, my Saviour, my all. Segment Division - Matt 12:32- Main Characters: Jesus, Pharisees. Event - Jesus message to the Pharisees; Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven. Lesson for Life: One who rejects the Holy Spirit's drawing to Christ will die in their sins. Segment Division - Matt 12:33 - Main Characters: Jesus, Pharisees. Event - Jesus message to the Pharisees; A tree is known by its fruit. A proper examination of the fruit of Jesus would have showed them He was from God. His healing of the demon-possessed, blind, mute man was evidence He was from God. Lesson for Life: I believe Jesus is good, perfect, holy, sinless. Segment Division - Matt 12:34-35 - Main Characters: Jesus, Pharisees. Event - Jesus message to the Pharisees; you are evil and cannot speak good. Lesson for Life: I should beware of listening to people who reject Jesus. Segment Division - Matt 12:36 - Main Characters: Jesus, Pharisees. Event - Jesus warns the Pharisees that judgment awaits them and as unbelievers, every idle word they speak will be called to account on the day of judgment. Lesson for Life: I should warn people who reject Christ that their words will be judged. Segment Division - Matt 12:37 - Main Characters: Jesus, Pharisees Event - Jesus warns the unsaved Pharisees "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned." Lesson for Life: Jesus always warns people what the future will bring. Blessings, Val |
