Subject: having to work the sabbath |
Bible Note: Greetings Dino, I disagree. The 10 commandments state "Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy", (Exo 20:8-11). We are no more rid of this commandment than we are any other commandment. We are still to remember the sabbath and we are to keep it holy. The reference you are referring to in Matt. 12 concerns the words that the priests had with Jesus because he allowed His disciples to pick grain on the Sabbath. Ordinary people were not allowed to do any work on the Sabbath, not even light a fire. The priest's work however doubled on the Sabbath (see Num 28:9-10). Therefore what Jesus was saying is that God's service takes precedence over Sabbath rules. The argument is that if priests who work in the temple on the Sabbath are guiltless because they further the worship of God, how much more are the disciples guiltless because they are serving Christ and obeying Him in their actions on the Sabbath. This exchange in no way deletes the Sabbath. prayon |
