AMPLIFIED 2015 | Jonah 2:2 and said, "I called out of my trouble and distress to the LORD, And He answered me; Out of the belly of Sheol I cried for help, And You heard my voice. [Ps 120:1; 130:1; 142:1; Lam 3:55-58] |
Subject: Did Jonah die in the belly of the fish? |
Bible Note: Sticking to Scripture and not speculation. As far as I know, Sheol has always referred to death or the grave. In the story of the Rich man and lazarus, as told by our Lord in (Luke 16:19-31) the Rich man (By the way he was still conscious) did indeed call out from the grave/death/sheol. And never in Scripture is it implied that we lose consciousness at death, on the contrary, Scripture says that the antipodal of this is true. I would not presume to presume that I knew what Jonah presumed from the belly of the great fish. Lets stick to the Scriptures. John |
