AMPLIFIED 2015 | Hosea 13:14 Shall I ransom them from the power of Sheol (the place of the dead)? Shall I redeem them from death? O death, where are your thorns? O Sheol, where is your sting? Compassion is hidden from My eyes [because of their failure to repent]. [1 Cor 15:55] |
Bible Question: Can U all help me in refuting an unbelievers contention that the Lord our God is a vile and crule God? She uses Hosea, wherein it is described that "babies will be ripped from wombs, and their heads dashed on the rocks." I need some scriptural support for telling her that God was "warning" His people about their disobedience. Can anyone help me? slide_m46@yahoo.com |
Bible Answer: Hi slide m46, I think you are correct that God has this as a "warning" about their guiltiness, their rebellion, for they have stumbled in (because of) their iniquities. But have your friend look to the end where we are told to know these things: 1) The ways of the Lord are right. 2)The righteous will walk in them. 3) The transgressors will stumble in them. The ways of the Lord are right. Even though this is the same Lord who says in Hosea 13:7, "So I will be like a lion to them; Like a leopard I will lie in wait by the wayside. I will encounter them like a bear robbed of her cubs, And (I) will tear open their chests; There I will also devour them like a lioness, As a wild beast would tear them." For you can contrast that with Hosea 14:4, "I will heal their apostasy, I will love them freely, For (My) anger has turned away from them. I will be like the dew to Israel;..." Remember Revelation 19, "Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God; Because (His) judgments are true and righteous..." Parentheses mine for comparison. I hope that this is helpful.
