Bible Question:
NASB Hosea 13:14 Shall I ransom them from the power of Sheol? Shall I redeem them from death? O Death, where are your thorns? O Sheol, where is your sting? Compassion will be hidden from My sight. AMPLIFIED Hosea 13:14 Should I ransom them from the power of Sheol (the place of the dead)? Should I redeem them from death? O death, where are your plagues? O Sheol, where is your destruction? Relenting and compassion are hidden from My eyes. [I Cor. 15:55.] What does this last thought mean (Relenting and compassion are hidden from My eyes)? |
Bible Answer: Greetings resurrectioner! "13:14 The first two statements are rhetorical questions to be answered in the negative: 'Will I ransom them from the power of Sheol? No. Will I redeem them from death? No.' The next two questions call upon Death and Sheol to unleash their power against Israel. But Paul used this to celebrate victory over death (1 Cor. 15:55)." [The Ryrie Expanded Edition NASB Study Bible] This last statement, "Relenting and compassion are hidden from My eyes." is referring to the Lord's wrath, that He will not hear the cries of Israel, but Israel's "time of living in grace" is finished, and the Lord is fed up!! So the Lord will unleash His full fury on Israel, without relenting until His wrath has been carried out. Blessings to you, Nolan |
