NASB | Daniel 2:43 "And in that you saw the iron mixed with common clay, they will combine with one another in the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, even as iron does not combine with pottery. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Daniel 2:43 "And as you saw the iron mixed with common clay, so they will combine with one another in the seed of men; but they will not merge [for such diverse things or ideologies cannot unite], even as iron does not mix with clay. |
Subject: why say mingled with the seed of men? |
Bible Note: Hello Misty, I checked several translations. "With" is literally correct here. The consensus of the few commentaries I looked at (Matthew Henry; Jamieson, Fausset, Browns; Adam Clarke, Ray Stedman) was that the iron was a form of government and the clay was man--an attempted mighty kingdom established entirely on man's principles. Basically, it's saying that this is doomed to failure from the beginning. Steve |
