Bible Note: Doc, I don't think you're wrong, and I appreciate the input. I felt the time I spend learning another language, although I feel it would come easy to me, is time taken away from learning God's Word - which I would not want to do. Furthermore, I felt my pride would be benefitting more than my Bible study. And we all know what the Bible says about pride :o) I feel as long as one is using a version of the Bible which originated from a source which can be trusted, I believe it doesn't take learning in the original language in which the books were written in order to have Truth revealed to you. Especially as it is the Holy Spirit who reveals it - in any and all languages. No one should consider any one or any source "inerrant", that's why I John 4:1 tells us to measure everything we hear by the word of God. I think it WOULD be nice to know if a word in the original is masculine, feminine, plural or singular. I don't disagree, there may be precious insight to gain by reading the texts in the original languages. I may still choose to learn one or both, since I do enjoy learning new languages. However, I don't think it will necessarily reveal any more of God's Word to me. |
