Bible Note: Dear Lady, I wonder why, then, that God chose language to convey His Truth? It would have been simpler to skip language altogether, and just imbue it into people by the Holy Spirit. I do not disagree on your conclusion. The path by which you have arrived, however, reveals presuppositions that contain the seeds of gnostic heresies. The doctrine of inerrancy is rooted in the inspiration of the very words themselves. This is why Paul can base an entire doctrine on whether an OT word was plural or singular (Gal 3:16). This is why John even used the word "Word" so explicitly in his Gospel. (John even wrote his Gospel in response to the gnostic heresies that were looking to mystical origins for truth.) Although they take some learning to use, there are tools that can provide precious insights into the original text of the Scriptures. Consequently, you and I will not need to invest the years necessary to become literate in Greek and/or Hebrew. For example, I use a Strong's Concordance and Wine's Expository Dictionary of NT Words. Also, we can ask questions of those who've had the time, energy, and opportunity to learn the original languages. (We're blessed to have at least one of those on the forum!) I'm not trying to demean what you are saying, ma'am. I'm just trying to make a significant point, important to our doctrine of the authority of Scripture. In Him, Doc |
