Bible Note: Hi Lu, I'd say learn Hebrew, because we need a Hebrew expert around here! ;-) I have been blessed in being able to audit the Greek class at my previous church's Bible college. That is the only "formal education" I am currently undergoing. I can say that I am at the top of the class, however, we are only up to our first year first semester mid-term. I began with Greek for two reasons, one is that it seemed less alien than Hebrew, and the other that I am currently doing more indepth study of the New Testament than the Old. I intend to learn Hebrew, Lord willing, next. My suggestion to you would be to pray about it, learn the alphabets of each, and see which one you are more inclined to study. Let the Lord lead. You can also purchase "learn on you own" workbooks for Hebrew and Greek, which, while I don't know how effective they will be for actually learning the whole thing, will give you a taste without a major investment or commitment. On the radio show I listen to on my way to work this morning, (also by the pastor of my previous church), the preacher was talking about how he dug and dug, looking at a passage in Ephesians, examining the Greek, and got some good insights. He was pleased that he had "a working knowledge of Greek", and was able to learn these things. Then a lady in the congregation came up to share with him one day what she had got from the Lord in her reading. Wouldn't you know but it was the very same insight, from the very same verse! Truly it is the Spirit that teaches us. I know He will lead you to what is right, and will reward you for your diligence. God bless! Love in Christ, Mark |
