Bible Question:
Why does Jeremiah think he was deceived? Was he deceived? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Steve! Jeremiah was not deceived by the Lord, but he was only "deceived" into proclaiming the very unpopular message that the Lord had given to the Israelites through Jeremiah! In Jeremiah 20:7, Jeremiah is lamenting about his situation and complaining to the Lord, even though he was still compelled to proclaim God's message. Even his closest friends were seeking his downfall because of the message that the Lord spoke through him (v. 10), and they accused him of being of false prophet because of the condemnation (that later came true) to the Israelites. A messenger that continually brings good news is generally well liked and received. A messenger that continually brings bad news (the truth in this case) is an outcast in his own society.
