Bible Question (short): what about (reliable) modern prophecy? |
Question (full): Thanks to all of you who've written back to this. I see all your points. The practical application I struggle with is that I have heard it preached that that is why some prophecies of God dont come to pass - I mean sometimes people are plain wrong, either accidentally or wilfully and the "word from God' wasnt God at all. But is there a case in which God could speak, it could be confirmed independently several times by reliable people, and that the thing he promised could still not come to pass because of a person's decision? It seems to me that an all knowing God wouldnt say "this will happen" then say later "oh but they did this, that stuffed the whole thing"...as I say, i love God and am not trying to be smart. Like say if a whole bunch of people who didnt know me said "the Lord has shown me you're going to have a baby boy", confirming my own impression, then I contracted an illness that made me sterile because of a poor decision my husband made, does that render Gods word invalid, because of my husbands decision? I am just struggling with this because I want to trust and serve God fully and I want to know how much stock to place in his revealed will, when it is clear. |
