Subject: A bit of racism; a lot of sarcasm. |
Bible Note: Hi Fred, I disagree on your conclusion here and would like to take a few moments and share why. "Judging by the context of this sentence, the sentences immediately preceding and following this, this is an extremely sarcastic comment." I do not perceive sarcasm...but God rather giving an example of impossibility to compare with man's inability to change his sin nature. We know it is sin nature because one can change sin 'habits' or 'actions' but one cannot change his own heart. "Yes, even a Biblical prophet living 500 years before the birth of Christ showed a hint of racism." I refer you to 2 Timothy 3:16 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" Jeremiah 13:12 "Therefore you shall speak to them this word: Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Every bottle and jar should be filled with wine. [The people] will say to you, Do we not certainly know that every bottle and jar should be filled with wine?..." According to Jeremiah 13:12 the Lord is speaking, not the prophet...so if you are to atribute racism to someone here, it would have to be the author, God. God's intention is clearly stated and I do not believe there was any communication of racism. Galatians 3: 27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." Although these are New Covenant scriptures, I believe they convey the message that God does not see our culture, our gender or our race, so God could not have made a racist statement. God bless |
