AMPLIFIED 2015 | Proverbs 20:22 Do not say, "I will repay evil"; Wait [expectantly] for the LORD, and He will rescue and save you. [Deut 32:35; 2 Sam 16:12; Rom 12:17-19; 1 Thess 5:15; 1 Pet 3:9] |
Bible Question: How does one really forgive? I find it very difficult to fogive if the person who has wronged you is someone close to you (i.e., parents, siblings, spouse). Pls teach me how to forgive ... and eventually, forget... |
Bible Answer: First I've prayed for you. You have been hurt and by someone that should have been trusted. I've learned (I'm old so I've had lots of lessons in this life!) that forgiveness frees me, not the person that wronged me. The hurt is real. Pray for that person. Pray that God help you forgive them. Pray for God's release from this pain. I've had to walk up to a person, at one time and say, I forgive you. That shocked them. Like the other writers said, if Christ could go to that cross to forgive me, I will practice and work at forgiving others, until I die. As a human, you many never forget in this lifetime. When the memory comes to mind, sing a song of praise. Sometimes I have to sing out loud - Amazing Grace is good for me. It takes work to forgive. I'm praying you peace and strength. |
