Bible Question: Why is the ground holy? The land was cursed at the fall of man and everything else that has been touched by the course must be sanctified. Is it possible that this land was sanctified? If so, by what? Is it possible that it's connected to the name of the mountain as being "the mountain of God"? I, personally, don't believe that the presence of God is a valid answer because the temple had to be sanctified for God's presence to dwell there (Day of Atonement), so what makes this different? Is it? Questions...questions...questions...any answers? |
Bible Answer: Becca, Please give this some thought. If an altar which has been consecrated and made holy by men can make the offerings brought to altar holy, does it not make sense that God by His presence in a place would make it holy by the place coming into contact with God? Many passages illustrate that the places where God has manifested Himself are called holy. Heaven is called holy because it is God's dwelling place(Deut 26:15 ff). The Holy of holies in the Tabernacle and the Tewmple was Holy because that was where God made Himself present to the Israelites in the Ark of the Covenant. Why do we call the Holy Land the Holy Land? Below are just a few isslutrations o this point. Ps 78:54 So He brought them to His holy land, To this hill country which His right hand had gained. Zech 2:12 "The LORD will possess Judah as His portion in the holy land, and will again choose Jerusalem. Ps 46:4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, The holy dwelling places of the Most High Is 48:2 "For they call themselves after the holy city And lean on the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is His name. Ex 29:37 "For seven days you shall make atonement for the altar and consecrate it; then the altar shall be most holy, and whatever touches the altar shall be holy. Ex 30:29 "You shall also consecrate them, that they may be most holy; whatever touches them shall be holy. Matt 23:19 "You blind men, which is more important, the offering, or the altar that sanctifies the offering? Josh 5:15 The captain of the LORD'S host said to Joshua, "Remove your sandals from your feet, for the place where you are standing is holy." And Joshua did so. 2 Pet 1:18 and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.
