Bible Question:
In Genesis, the Bible speaks of "Keeping the Sabbath," What does that mean? Some say it means to stop all work, and attend church on Saturday. To me Keeping the Sabbath means just what it says.. to keep it. I do not attend church on Saturdays but on Sundays. I keep the Sabbath every day in my heart and the way I live. What would be the purpose of keeping one day (Saturday) when you act like the devil the other six days of the week. I don't think the "day" actual matters as long as you are living "Holy" and "Righteous" every day of the week...24-7. What are your thoughts? |
Bible Answer: Destiny, Welcome to the forum. The Sabbath has been discussed on this forum. Type Sabbath under Quick Search on the upper right side of this page. To answer your question God rested from all His work on the seventh day, blessed it and made it holy (Gen 2:2). It wasn't until the Law was issued that we were told to keep the Sabbath. However, the Hebrews were obeserving it before (Exo 16:23ff). Exodus 31:13ff gives the rules. Jesus healed on the Sabbath, including John 19:14. We need to set aside (making it holy) a day where we focus on the Lord ... don't make it a holiday but a holy day. You can go to church on a separate day. Hope this helps, Searcher |
