AMPLIFIED 2015 | Exodus 20:7 ¶ "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain [that is, irreverently, in false affirmations or in ways that impugn the character of God]; for the LORD will not hold guiltless nor leave unpunished the one who takes His name in vain [disregarding its reverence and its power]. |
Bible Question: What does GOD think about video games and movies like Bruce Almighty, were humans play the part of GOD. Are those movies good or bad? |
Bible Answer: Hi l'homme humble, Ex 20:7 "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain. Using God's Name in a curse is only a part of this commandment. To "take the Name of the LORD your God in vain" is to "lift up" the Name of the Lord in an empty or meaningless way. When a moviemaker, writer, or gamer presents a character portraying God, but not as God actually is, this is taking the Name of the LORD in vain. This person will not be guiltless. Another thing to think about regarding this passage is for those who call themselves Christian, but in an empty or meaningless way. God will not hold them guiltless. But think about it - how would you feel if someone made a movie saying it was about you, but making a mockery of who you really are? Love in Christ, Mark |
