NASB | Exodus 20:7 ¶ "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Exodus 20:7 ¶ "You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain [that is, irreverently, in false affirmations or in ways that impugn the character of God]; for the LORD will not hold guiltless nor leave unpunished the one who takes His name in vain [disregarding its reverence and its power]. |
Bible Question (short): Swearing on God's Name |
Question (full): The following example is fiction. So lets say I stole money from a friend and my sister told my mother. I tell my mother this is not true. So she makes me swear on God's name I didn't steal any money. All a while I had actually stole the money. Now a scenario like this happened but it was a little more serious. Now as I kid I remember someone telling me if you swore on God's name to something false you would not be forgiven. Now I am obviously very sorry about this and am repenting. But that fear still remains, that I can never be forgiven. |
