Bible Question:
After researching Easter on this site I came across this fact: "according to the World Almanac, Easter is observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the vernal equinox (the first day of spring)." This has prompted some thoughts and questions. Since the term "Easter" is a derivation from pagan goddesses, why has the church embraced this word? For the believer, our Lord's triumph is a day to celebrate - doesn't "Resurrection Day" seem more worth celebrating than "easter?" Which is the correct day of observance according to the Jewish Passover? Wouldn't it be great to begin a Christ-centered, world-wide movement to re-establish the correct day of observance of our Lord's Triumph or would this just wreck havoc with our "Easter Vacation" scheduling? Just wondering . . . Mommapbs |
Bible Answer: Yes Easter is another prominent religious holiday. The Holy week in some Latin American countries is similiar. But Easter was not celebrated by early christians either. There is no indication of the observance of the Easter festival in the New Testament. Yet does it really matter that Christmas and Easter are not christian celebrations but actually had their beginnings with worshipers of false gods? The Apostle Paul warned against mixing the true and the false, saying that even " a little leaven ferments the whole lump." (Galatians5:9) He told some early christians that it was wrong for them to observe days that had been kept under the law of Moses but that had been canceled by God for christians.(Galatians 4:10,11)How much more important it is for true Christians today to keep away from holidays that God never said should be observed and that came from false religion! Compare Exodus 32:4-10. Notice that the Isrealites adopted an Egyptian religious practice but gave it a new name " A festival to the LORD" But the LORD severely punished them for this. We celebrate the ressurection of Christ and by Satan and his buddies throwing in a pegan made holiday of a bunny rabbit to throw ones attention completely off of what God has instructed us to acknowledge (with coloring easter eggs) thats taunting (or you might as well be laughing at) God Almighty. |
