Subject: Holy Spirit or wind, breath, spirit? |
Bible Note: Hi Mommapbs, Thank you for staying with this and thinking it through with me. Thank you for the Romans passage here also. To my mind if one talks about a gift, then it is a thing and not a Person. When one receives a gift or present, it is presented to him/her by a Giver. That is how I think of the spirit given to us by God. We receive His spirit. And you know that I believe in the Holy Spirit as a Person and we are led by the Spirit and are thinking here of the things of the Spirit. I simply believe that we have to distinguish between the gift and the Giver. In looking at Romans, I believe that a remnant has been saved. There was a partial hardening among the Jews until the fulness of the Gentiles has come in. Romans 11:25. The Jews received from God a spirit of stupor and they insulted their (King) on the cross and "trampled under foot the Son of God...and insulted the (Spirit) of grace." Hebrews 10:29. Romans 11:8, "just as it is written, "God gave them a spirit of stupor, Eyes to see not and ears to hear not, down to this very day." The religious leaders were looking to the Law and to their works to save them. They stumbled over the stumbling stone of works instead of believing in Him. They did not attain righteousness. Why? 1) Romans 9:32, "Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as though it were by works. They stumbled over the stumbling stone, 33 just as it is written, "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense, And he who believes in (Him) will not be [put to shame]." Ezekiel 36:30, "And (I) will multiply the fruit of the tree and the produce of the field, that you may not receive again the disgrace of famine among the nations." 2) God will judge His people, both Jew and Gentile. The Gentile also must continue in His kindness; otherwise we too will be cut off. Ezekiel 37:11, "Then He said to me, "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel; behold, they say, 'Our bones are dried up, and our hope has perished. We are completely cut off.'" Romans 11:19, "You will say then, "Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in." 20 Quite right, they were broken off for their unbelief, but you stand by your faith. Do not be conceited, but fear; 21 for if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will He spare you. 22 Behold then the kindness and severity of God; to those who feel severity, but to you, God's kindness, if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off. 23 And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in; for God is able to graft them in again. Ezekiel 37:14, "And I will put My [breath] within you and you will come to life, and I/ will place you on your own land. Then you will know that I, the Lord, have spoken it and done it," declares the (Lord)." From the heart, Ray |
