Bible Question: I am going through a rough time in my life. I know the Lord and I am seeking him. What can I read or do feel that he hears my cries? |
Bible Answer: Dear Cynthia, Your feelings are not the issue in a time of trouble. Truth is the real issue. We know that God is privy to our deepest thoughts. We know that He commands us to pray. We know that He manages all things for our ultimate benefit and His ultimate glory. Feelings come and go, but truth is eternal. If you want evidence that God is prompting you to prayer, I'd suggest you consider the situation that prompted your post. If you are driven to cry out to God, then it is quite likely that these circumstances are part of His providential care to conform you to the image of His son. God wants you to look to Him from now on, not the other things in which you've sought consolation. God never arranges these things without a purpose. David wrote, "It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn Thy statutes." You might want to pour over Hebrews 10 through 12, with particular emphasis on chapter 12. Ask yourself, when your difficulties pass, will you persevere in your pursuit of God? If the thing that you think is the best possible outcome occurs, will you still seek Him? If the thing that you think is the worst possible outcome occurs, will He be any less worthy of worship? Will you offer up to Him, as a sacrifice, this difficult time? Determine to pray to our Lord through this time no matter how little you may feel His presence. Miss... words sometimes sound cold and sterile, especially as we bring to bear the truth in highly emotional situations. Please know, young lady, that that is just how words sound. My heart goes out to you. I can assure you of my prayers... plus the prayers of those who read these words. In Him, Doc PS Welcome to the forum. |
