Subject: Is anything in the bible proven untrue |
Bible Note: Greetings Ateo, I almost double-majored on the collegiate level in the area of Mathematics, and I have studied a great deal in upper level Calculus, so I seriously doubt that you could provide a serious lecture in regards to pi, unless it is your claim to be a doctorate in the subject... There are too many unknowns to substantiate your claim, and there are way too many variables that you simply cannot derive from Scripture to "prove" mathematically that the Bible is incorrect. For instance, you do not know if the measurement was conducted in a way that was recorded from the inside of the circle. Also, we do not know (or will ever know) if the 'sea' was indeed, a "perfect" circle. And since the 'sea' is the object that is being criticised here (and not the Bible), then it is impossible to come to an accurate conclusion without first examining the original. I hope that you can agree with me that that is simply something that we cannot possibly do (examine the original). It could be possible that the "measurer" could have taken a 'liberty' by "truncating" the difference, or shall we say "round" the difference to the nearest whole number, which in the case of pi, would be a correct representation of that measurement, according to our understanding of the concept of pi. Therefore, you are entirely presumptuous when you state that this could, in fact, be 'evidence' that the Bible is in some way inaccurate or misleading. As for my second statement, I would gladly explain it to you if you would care to write to me (using my email address in my profile) off the forum. Blessings to you, Makarios |
