Bible Question: I am a new believer and am really looking to emerse myself in the word but I am not sure where to start. I'm not sure that starting with Genesis right now really makes sense for me considering the place I'm at in my life and what I am looking to find, so I'd like to start somewhere in the New Testament - any suggestions on where to start or how to go about the process of introducing myself at depth to scripture? Also, is it wrong to go into this process looking to get something in particular out of it? This isn't to say I am limiting myself to only that, but I am hoping to find particular information about forgiveness and God's unconditional love and acceptance of us (which obviously is there). I just don't know if going in with my own agenda is the right thing to do. Thanks! :) |
Bible Answer: Hi John, I thank the Lord for saving you, and giving you this hunger for His Word. I pray that you will hunger and thirst for Jesus, and His Word, more that any earthly thing! I would suggest to you to begin with the gospel of John: John 20:31 But these have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name. This is to secure you in your belief. I would then suggest Romans. This book will take you through: Man's sinfulness and inability to save himself, How God gives righteousness only through believing in Him, How His righteousness is something completely new and different in our lives, How His righteousness gives us a permanent relationship with God, and Our new way to relate to the world, to unbelievers, and believers. Romans 6-8 present the truth that Nothing of our flesh, or that which is ours by nature, has any possiblitiy of making us acceptable to God, while believing in Jesus, and receiving the life of the Spirit, makes us as acceptable to God as Jesus is, now and forever. I hope this helps! Please let us know how you are doing, and if you have any other questions. Love in Christ, Mark |
