Subject: What the scripture say about morality? |
Bible Note: Greetings ChristLifer2001! When I read the following: "It is not the Law that is the problem. It is indwelling sin that uses the Law to cause us to sin", I knew right then that you completely understood where I was coming from when I wrote, "One cannot be motivated to sin from reading the Bible." Yes, I did consider Romans before I went so far as to say that a person cannot be motivated to sin from reading the Bible. The underlying question is: what exactly initiates the motivation to sin, and the 'initiator' of sin is most certainly not the Word of God, since it is pure and holy. You see, "the words of the LORD are pure words; as silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times." (Psalm 12:6) There is nothing within the Word of God itself that causes us to sin, it is our own sinful nature and desires within us that causes us to sin. Studying or dwelling upon the Word of God does not in itself produce or result in a desire to sin against God. However, the very "Presence" of the Law, or the Word of God, reveals our sin, and in that way, we are stimulated to sin, because man naturally desires whatever is forbidden (Romans 7:13). But just as Paul says in Romans 7:12, the Law is holy, and the Word of God is holy. In fact, the Word of God is holy and righteous and good. Therefore, by itself, the Word of God itself does not motivate a man to sin. That is what I meant, and you have correctly perceived that! :-) I am thankful that this has given us an excellent study of the sinful nature and what the reaction of the sinful nature is to the 'pure words of the LORD.' Blessings to you, Makarios |
