Bible Note: Greetings again, ChristLifer2001! Romans 5:20 is an interesting verse, but it is not saying that the Word of God stimulates or motivates a person to sin. What Romans 5:20 is saying is that the Law came in not to bring about redemption, but to show the very need for it! So therefore, the Law made sin 'increase' by revealing what sin is in contrast to God's holiness, which is found in the Word of God. However, this magnification of sin magnified the grace of God that much more in Jesus Christ! In that way, we come to an understanding that it is not the Law, in and of itself, that causes people to sin, but it is the revelation of man's depravity in sin, that causes sin to abound that much more. The Word of God and the Law do not, in and of themselves, motivate a person to sin. :-) Blessings to you, Makarios |
