Bible Note: Justme: It may be somewhat of an over-simplification to say this [but I'm over-simple myself, or didn't you know? :-)], but I believe that seminaries can be divided into two categories: liberal and conservative. Those seminaries with which you've had first-hand experience are, or at least were, fairly conservative I believe. I come from a communion other than the Southern Baptist of which my wife and I have been members some seven years. The other communion, of which we were members some 40 years, is far more liberal than the Southern Baptist Convention and so are their seminaries, of which I have a fair to middling knowlede, having read a considerable number of essays, sermons and various reports and commentaries written by professors in these seminaries. And I tell the truth when I say that some of the stuff I've read that was written by the very people who are supposed to teach and train young students how to pastor to members of Christ's church would curl the toes of anyone who believes in the authority and inerrancy of Scripture and accepts it as his sole guide to faith and practice. I'm not talking about minor differences in theology here. I'm talking about the bedrock of the Christian faith, the Bible, and the sound exegesis and interpretation of it. Some of these seminary professors, Justme, are so far out of touch with orthodox Christianity that they are on a totally different theological planet. Yes, there are some good seminaries still around, thank the Lord. But there are others that are poisoning the malleable young minds of aspiring preachers and are as apostate as apostate can be. --Hank |
