Subject: The Sovereignty of God |
Bible Note: tgc: Thanks, brother, for another excellent response to the question regarding the sovereignty of God. And I believe you're right, too. If the pure and undefiled gospel of Jesus Christ were pure grain alcohol, not many church goers on Sunday morning would get enough of it to feel the effects, considering what little they get being spoon fed by some cowardly pastors who value their salary and position so much that they'd rather dilute the truth than their money. This sounds harsh but I believe it's true. I've been a Christian and a church goer for 55 years and am totally flabbergasted by what I've observed taking place in Christendom during those years. And it seems to get worse instead of better. My greatest hope and solace is to know the Lord and to believe firmly and unshakably in his word of truth, which leads me to the conclusion that He is sovereign, that He is now and ever shall be in charge. Crazy things are going on in our world, and even though I don't presume to understand even a fraction of them, I cannot embrace any other view than that the sovereign Lord of heaven and earth is working His purpose out in His own way, in his own time frame, and to His own glory. Yet from our limited perspective, living as we must in this chaotic world, these times are not really much better -- indeed they may be worse -- than the times during the American Revolution of which Thomas Paine wrote, "These are the times that try men's souls." May God help the saints to persevere! --Hank |
