Subject: The Sovereignty of God |
Bible Note: Justme: Thanks for responding. This old Razorback hasn't swapped ideas with the Missouri Mule in a spell :-) I'm joyed that you have resumed more Forum activity and hope this indicates that your health is holding up. ..... Justme, while it is not true of my church and I trust not of yours, it is nevertheless true that today there is in many sectors of the so-called Christian community an erosion of sound doctrine. When this occurs, the first target is the denial of the absolute authority and inerrancy of Scripture. The second is the sovereignty of God. This one is more subtle and creeps in gradually, silently, and covertly without making a big splash. The man in the pew hardly guesses what's going on until its done. And what is this philosophy that eats away at the biblical doctrine of the sovereignty of God? In a word, humanism, and humanism always leads to liberal theology. WE are the masters of our fate, says humanism, WE are the captains of our souls. It is WE who can shape the world, WE who determine our destiny, and WE, according to the blasphemous Word of Faith theology, WE can paint God in the corner, WE can manuever Him, WE can force Him to give us the health and wealth WE are due. ..... Justme, read and compare the sermons of godly preachers like Spurgeon, Edwards, R. G. Lee, W. A. Criswell, Adrian Rogers, and David Jeremiah, to name but a few -- read and compare their preaching on the sovereignty of God with the Word of Faith clowns, and other fuzzy-wuzzy feel-gooders who blanket our airwaves with their pale, watered down, insipid versions of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The sovereignty of God IS being taught and preached in the world today, but it is becoming increasingly more difficult to find it. --Hank |
