Bible Note: Greetings Candy Lee, Both the NIV and the Holman Christian Standard Bible [HCSB] are about the same, with the HCSB being just a bit more literal than the NIV. If I had to choose one over the other, I would pick the HCSB over the NIV, even though the Old Testament of the HCSB will not be available until 2004. Both claim a 7th grade reading level, and both are presented well and easy to read. Also, the Southern Baptist Denomination has adopted the HCSB as their primary Bible that they use in their devotional and Sunday School material. Hank provided a great suggestion by stating that you could rather seek to educate your kids in the language of the KJV! You may want to try this first. But, if it does not succeed, and goes as far as to discourage them from reading, then I would not force them to use the KJV, but introduce either the NIV or HCSB, to use with the KJV, letting them make their own choice! :-) Your best friend is a Jehovah's Witness? A good friend of mine is a Jehovah's Witness as well. But perhaps the Lord chose such a time as this to use you to share the truth about Christ to your friend. If your witness is rejected, then at least you can testify that you have truly done your part, and stood in the gap (Ezek. 22:30) where others fear to tread. I know what you are thinking! You want to keep your relationship with your friend! But never count out the Holy Spirit, because you could be surprised at what He can do through you! Blessings to you, Makarios |
