Bible Question:
I think I understand Christianity a little better now. :) 1) Tim, what are the conditions for being saved? e.g. Can i be a rapist who believes, or an adulterer who commits adultery, or in general a sinner who sins on an ongoing basis (hasn't given up his sins), and still go to heaven? 2) Why are you a pastor? if you are 100 percent garaunteed you are going to heaven, why work in the path of God? to be even closer to God? Yours truly, Isa |
Bible Answer: Isa, Let me add to Pastor Tim's excellent post. You asked, "Can I be a rapist who believes, or an adulterer who commits adultery, or in general a sinner who sins on an ongoing basis (hasn't given up his sins), and still go to heaven?" JVH0212 answered better than I did on this this past week. We cannot habitually commit sin and be a believer. 1 John 1:9-2:22 constrasts light and darkness. However, we come to Him as flithy sinners. We don't even have to wash our little toe. He does that. When I take a bath, I do not do any washing outside the tub. If you know how the Japanese take a traditional bath (ofuro), they come into the bathroom dirty and get washed, or have someone do it for them. Christ washes us compelety clean. At that point we are saved. Then we can enter the pure waters of His life. You also asked, "What are the conditions for being saved?" That is life's most important question. I'll use the passage my father used many times, Romans 10:13-15. Taje it in reverse order. |
