Bible Question:
It says a few times in the bible to be careful not to lose your salvation. I thought that "once saved" is "always saved". Any comments. Thanks! D.D.1961 |
Bible Answer: I won't ever say, "You can lose your salvation", because frankly, I think that sentence is misused. Instead, I think we should all get used to saying, "Yes, you can fall from Grace". Not to forget that even the promises made to ancient Israel were also conditional: Exodus 19:5 Now therefore, IF ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: But the main thing is that we must rely upon God to keep us from stumbling, because we cannot do it by ourselves. Only God can keep us from falling, so there is no glory for ourselves. If we start to put our faith elsewhere, other than the Lord, then we could fall. As God has clearly said that we are all wicked, even from the womb. Through all these arguments, we have to remember the "ifs" that are so many times mentioned in the Bible. God promises that we will not fail, IF only we keep our trust in Him, since he is the ONLY one that can keep us. The moment we trust ourselves, such as with good works and the such, then we don't have the necessary faith on the one rock that can keep us. |
