Subject:  Violent correction?

Bible Note:
Hi Rowdy,
I think it was when my kids were teenagers that they forced me to practice the hair pulling routine. It is, in my opinion, an act of frustration more then anything.
I must say, we have all heard of the expression of pulling ones hair out but I don’t see what that has to do with the biblical connotation of repentance. Originally the word for repentance, in the Koine Greek was METANOIA, which is a compound word META, meaning to change and NOIA form from the root word NOUS or mind, i.e. changing ones mind.
Self-flagellation and sorrow ironically doesn’t even fit into the picture.
The verse that comes to mind is the following.
Luke 13:3
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

This ties in perfectly with, John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Jesus is telling everyone that they need to change their mind about what they are doing to acquire eternal life; that consist of not relying on ones self but relying on the work of Christ. They must put all of their faith in Christ and rely on what he did for them on the cross; it’s like a 180-degree turn, as it were.
Aside from this, all those that don’t change their way of thinking about the person and work of Jesus, are going to perish.

I hope your hair comes back; I have some stuff that could grow hair on an egg, it’s called mold, CDBJ
