Bible Question: I would like some input on whether or not it is unscriptural for a woman to pastor? We are currantly attending church where our pastor is a lady, she is under her husbands covering, but is primarily preaching. We would not want to find ourselves out from under God's covering by attending.I wouls appreciate some feed back..Blessings,Singer |
Bible Answer: I would turn your attention to a few places in the Bible. First Ephesians 4. Specifically verse 11. It says that gifts are give to the members of the church according to what Christ desires, or sees that the member can control. It does not specify that pastors have to be men it just says. "And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers," Second, I Corinthians 14:34-35 says that women should keep silent in church but I believe we have to look at that time and culture to understand this. At that time women were not as educated as the women of today and the whole culture was different. Third, In Timothy and Phillipians there is reference to women who helped Paul "labored with me in the gospel...", and who were encouraged to help other women. To summarize, I believe women can teach the word and labor in the gospel with men. If you have a problem with a women pastor then it is your decision based on what you find in the Bible, that will determine how you should move. Look for God's wisdom in His word and do not just accept what other men have interpreted it to mean. Hope this helps. Daniel Wakefield |
