Bible Note: Ischus: Of a truth I got the distinct feeling from reading your response to EdB that you may have written it in haste and with some little animus toward EdB, both of which possibly were contributory to what comes over to me as your words having a tendency to stumble over one another. Your post, in other words, appears to lack a measure of clarity and seems to be slightly contradictory of itself regarding your stand on the inspiration of Scripture. To be specific, in one sentence in your post you say that you believe the Bible is the word of God. In another you say that you do not believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the Bible. In still another sentence in the same post you say that you do believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of the original autographs. [Of course, no autographs of Scripture are known to be extant, so where does that leave you in regard to how reliable and true you assess the Bible to be?] ..... I think I may have some idea of your meaning, but I'd rather you, not I, explain and expand on it in order to make it less recondite. Would you be kind enough to do that for us? ..... A personal P.S. -- I love words and idioms. When I was your age "to chill a little" was something you did when you had a bug and ran a fever! My, can I ever keep abreast of the changes in our beloved English tongue :-) --Hank |
