Bible Question: I am of the Catholic faith and having a Catholic family you are baptized as a infant usually. I was baptized at 3 months old. Before I ever had a choice. Well, my question is that most of my life I have sinned plenty more or less walked away from God but am now back closer than I ever been and plan on staying that way. Well, so do I need to be baptized again? I mean the first time it wasn't even my choice. Does it still count as the same? In the bible they get baptized as adults and then turn their life around (born again) so should I go get baptized again? |
Bible Answer: Dear eascusa To answer your question there are a few questions. 1) Now that you have come to this point in your life are you just going to start attending a Catholic Church again with your family? Then I do not think any Priest would Re-Baptize you. 2) Are you thinking of re-dedicating your life to God from this point in your life simply using Baptism as the logical starting point? Baptism does not give you Salvation. Eph.2:8 8For (U)by grace you have been saved (V)through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is (W)the gift of God; Rom. 6:23 23For the wages of (AR)sin is death, but the free gift of God is (AS)eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom.10:8-10 8But what does it say? "(K)THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART"--that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, 9that (L)if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and (M)believe in your heart that (N)God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. The above is the process by which you are saved. Up until the time you accept Jesus as Savior you could never see or enter the Kingdom of God. Gods Kingdom is a spiritual Kingdom only acquired by one that is a spiritual being as God is. If you have gone through the process of accepting and receiving the Grace of God in the form of Salvation you can become that spiritual being by getting Baptized. Then after you are Baptized you are told to seek the Kingdom. The following is what you gain through Baptism. Rom. 6:4 4Therefore we have been (G)buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was (H)raised from the dead through the (I)glory of the Father, so we too might walk in (J)newness of life. John 3:3_6 3Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one (F)is born again he cannot see (G)the kingdom of God." 4Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? He cannot enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born, can he?" 5Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of (H)water and the Spirit he cannot enter into (I)the kingdom of God. 6"(J)That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Mt.6:33 33"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and (AQ)all these things will be added to you. Mt.7:7-8 7"(F)Ask, and (G)it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8"For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Rom.8:3-5 3For (G)what the Law could not do, (H)weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in (I)the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4so that the (J)requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who (K)do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on (L)the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, (M)the things of the Spirit. If you have come to this point in your life as described above by all means find a Protestant Church and get Baptized. God Bless YenIsaRap |
