We take all that Scripture has to say on any given topic in order to properly understand what we are to believe on that topic. Narrative is then examined in that light, not in the other way around. You asked, "From the opinions of man? Or from the plain and easy-to-understand word of God?" No, we do not take the "opinions of men" as authoritative in and of themselves. We are discussing the sound exegesis of the Bible. However, the opinions of men do carry authority insofar as they acknowledge and are derived from the authority of Scripture. A fundamental presupposition of this forum is the doctrine of sola Scriptura. (You agreed to it when you created your account.)
