Subject: Where's Daniel?! |
Bible Note: Yes I was being sarcastic and I apologize. Your missing what I’m trying to tell you. The story of the three Hebrew children was given to us to show us the trust and faith others exercised in God. The Hebrew children while separated from their parents, in a strange and fearful land remembered their teaching and refused to worship an idol. Not only did they refuse but they stood in defiance to a man that literally held the power of life and death. When they were thrown into the furnace they did not know their outcome. I imagine they probably took what they thought was their last look at life at that moment. Yet their faith, their teaching brought they to this place in time. The story has a fantastic ending as God saved them. To me the greatest lesson here is the responsibility of parents to teach the children of God’s faithfulness, then to live life before them so that should they ever need to stand on their own faith, it is sufficient to see them through. Another lesson to me is the responsibility of parents to teach their children God’s law and to live a life before them in such a way that reflects and fortifies that lesson. I think there is a personal lesson here, for all of us. While we know the end of the story the Hebrew children didn’t. They acted on what they knew to be right and trusted God in doing what was best for them and so that He was glorified. Many people act as they do because they think they know God’s answer. These children acted in pure trust. Those are the important lessons of this passage and I can’t help but think if we ponder what happened to Daniel if that wouldn’t distract us from mediating on these truths. In any case this is my last comment on the subject it has gotten far more air time on the forum than it is deserves. EdB |
