Bible Question:
In trying to add the numbers up to understand the 70 week prophecy in Daniel, chapter 9 I am running into conflicting information. According to Teachinghearts.org, the final decree to rebuild Jerusalem was issued fall 457B.C. but according to my other source, John Macarthur's Daniel study guide, the decree was issued 445 B.C. Both sources agree the Persian Artaxerxes issued the decree. Then concerning the year Jesus rode in on the donkey declaring himself to be the Messiah, teachinghearts says the year was 27 A.D., while John Macarthur says it was 30 A.D. Can anyone shed some light on what is correct concerning the year each of these two events actually ocurred? Chusarcik |
Bible Answer: Chusarcik Personally I would go with MacArthur as I'm sure he has done more study on this. Besides he agrees with Clarence Larkin which studied end times prophecy" as much as anyone. In fact you may want to pick up his book "The Book of Daniel" by Rev. Clarence Larkin published by Larkin Estates. He has a whole chapter discussion on setting this date and time. The question is not easy to answer. First we have to depend on secular history for most clues. Secondly calanders have gone through many changes, 360 day year to 365 , leap years, added months, and man made adjustments. From time to time the Ceasars decided to delete and add months on whim. The fact is Daniel correctly predicted Jesus would be cut off and just because we can't place the exact date due to human error, manipulation does not change that fact. At most we are a year to two off. EdB |
