Bible Question: Should we guess what God impressed on the heart of men before the Law given by God that is not recorded in the Bible? |
Bible Answer: Searcher56 I guess this is aimed at me since I more or less allowed for speculation. However I find it interesting that if you study world cultures you find there is a similar thread through most. That thread follows the last 6 of the commandments. Even when a culture rejects absolute adherence to a commandment they still retain some aspect of it. For instance in some Eskimo cultures it is considered proper etiquette to offer one's wife to a visitor for the evening however it is against their morality to commit adultery in any other setting. Back to our point Job acted in a righteous way in his actions as testified by the very words of God. Since sin had already entered the world at this point, we have one of two possibilities. Either Job was following some guidelines offered to him by God or man does intuitionally (new word) understand righteousness from unrighteousness. We have to be very careful not to be dogmatic about this for as you said God did not explain Job’s source of righteousness in the Bible He just said Job possessed it. EdB |
