NASB | Genesis 9:5 "Surely I will require your lifeblood; from every beast I will require it. And from every man, from every man's brother I will require the life of man. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Genesis 9:5 "For your lifeblood I will most certainly require an accounting; from every animal [that kills a person] I will require it. And from man, from every man's brother [that is, anyone who murders] I will require the life of man. [Ex 21:28, 29] |
Bible Question:
My NIV version puts it quite differntly:And for your life blood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each man, to I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man. Genesis 9:5 What are CEV and NLT translations? My NIV version seems to indicate animals must give account for their actions rather than die if they kill a human as your two translations indicate. I just looked at King James version and it seems to match your two versions more closely than the NIV. Is the NIV version just not worded properly? Chusarcik |
Bible Answer: The context is not one of standing before God and giving a reason for their actions it is one of holding the animal or person accountable and responisble for their actions and suffering the consequences for them. In this case the consequences of an animal killing a person is the animals death. As well as a person killed another person same consequences. |
