Subject: By the bible, is nuclear winter possible |
Bible Note: Just Read Mark, Actually I simply asked a question: Is this a promise that "global warming", "nuclear winter" or other disasters will never have the devastation that some scientists predict? "Wow: what a frightening conversation. I do not think the Bible is to be read in this way." But Jesus said "...do not be troubled...": Mark 13 7But when you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be troubled; for such things must happen, but the end is not yet. 8For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be earthquakes in various places, and there will be famines and troubles.[1] These are the beginnings of sorrows. "What are you suggesting: that we don't need to fear nuclear proliferation, because the Bible says life will go on? " No, I am not suggesting that we don't need to fear nuclear proliferation, but "this scripture" does comfort us by promising a limit to the devastation. "Christians need to be active and engaged in these moral issues of our time -- not lulled to sleep. " I totally agree. "Perhaps the Genesis text is to assure us that, in taking action, this world can be made better than it is. " I disagree. It is always true that "in taking action, this world can be made better than it is.". However, Remember what has just taken place in this scripture context. The world had just been destroyed by the great flood due to man's violence. God then promises these limits on future destruction: Genesis 8:22 "While the earth remains, Seedtime and harvest, Cold and heat, Winter and summer, And day and night Shall not cease." "... we are called to be active, to serve, and to suffer for others." I agree with this also. Pastor Glenn |
