Subject: Why was Judah the chosen tribe? |
Bible Note: Dear Searcher, If we are to believe that Judah was chosen based on his being more deserving than the others, would we have to say that Jacob was chosen on greater merit than Esau, and Isaac greater merit than Ishmael, and Abraham greater merit than Lot? Going the other direction chronologically, did Tamar have greater merit than others, or did she just win the prize because she was the last to pass down the line? There are others of whom we could speak regarding less than meritorious lives, but I think you get the point. So my question is this: Where in Scripture do we find God's choosing of any individual based on merit?
