Subject: Who is Melchizedek? |
Bible Note: Well, brethren, let's see. What actual Bible FACTS do we have about this elusive Melchizedek himself? Not so many that we couldn't carry them in a shirt pocket. His name appears in 10 verses of Scripture: one in Genesis, one in Psalms, and eight in Hebrews. All these verses can be viewed in a jiffy by typing in Melchizedek in the Bible Search at the right of this screen. We know that Melchizedek was (1) king of Salem, (2) a priest of God, and (3) that he met and blessed Abraham. These are the facts in the matter. So how many other facts do we have about him? They're mighty scare, brother. Oh, we can state positively and with vigor whatever we want to about old Mel, I suppose, as long as it doesn't bother us a heap to take a giant leap from fact to fiction. The Bible doesn't much about Melchizedek, so how much does anyone know about him? Not much, I'm afraid. Not much. Case closed. And to all a good night. --Hank |
