Bible Question: My Aunt asked me a question that I can't answer, so I bring it to you all... After the flood, it was only noah and his family, so where did all the races come from? I know that God confused the people at the tower of bable with languge... but I don't how to give anymore of an answer than that. |
Bible Answer: msbblc: You ask difficult questions. We know that only 8 people were saved from the flood as you have rightly pointed out. "And the sons of Noah that went forth from the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japeth: and Ham is the father of Canaan" Gen. 9:18 In verse 19 we are told that from these three sons of Noah "was the whole earth overspread." Noah made a prophetic statement regarding each of his sons in Gen 9 25-27 a) The posterity of Ham through Canaan would be cursed to a servile standing in the world. b) Shem would have a special relationship with the Lord God. c) Japheth would be enlarged, I believe meaning that he would be father of many nations. In Gen. 10 we are given the generations of the sons of Noah after the flood. In Gen. 11 as you have pointed out already the tower of Babel and the dispersal of the people over the earth. From "Tegg's Essential Chronology of the Old Testament it is suggested that: Shem is the father of those in early Asia. Ham the father of the African nations. Japhet the father of the European nations. I hope this does not confuse you. Robert |
